Having your baby swaddled helps control the moro reflex, but it should be understood that not all babies necessarily will like being swaddled. By six months old the moro reflex is minimal or totally gone. Swaddling is really only for the first 3-4 months of a babies life after that, your baby will need to move about a bit and be able to release body heat to prevent over heating.
• If your baby is one who does not like to swaddled, some mums swear by a baby gro bag (baby sleeping bag) that leaves babies arms out and whilst the legs are obviously inside they are not held firm like the swaddle. Being in a baby gro bag has the added benefit that baby will not wriggle out of it and so wake up cold in the night. Be aware though that like duvets there are different thicknesses of gro bags from 0.5 tog being extra light to 3 tog being extra warm. Most gro bags come with instructions regarding this but make sure you have a read before use.
• Having a ‘wind down’ routine can help as well. Although babies below six months are very young to use a routine with, it is possible to have the beginnings of one. Giving your baby a nice lukewarm bath, a baby massage with some oil (even f you dont know how to do this, your baby will love you to just stroke him or her) followed by a breastfeed or a warm bottle of milk in a dim lit room, perhaps even with some low music playing will help your baby realise that when all this is happening, he or she will be in bed soon and be ready to sleep.
• Using aids such as rocking, dummies or feeding to sleep do all help though sometimes your baby can begin to rely on whichever as the only way he or she can settle to sleep, so when your baby wakes in the early hours of the morning, he or she could come to need you to provide whichever aid they are used to sleeping with. If you would like to avoid this, it can help to use rocking or dummy or a feed as a wind down to get your baby sleepy but try to avoid them actually falling alseep whilst in the process. When those impurities are carried in clothing that can be in contact with a baby’s skin for hours at a time, the potential for exposure to toxins increases dramatically.  

One of the potential carriers for these toxins is conventional cotton, one of the biggest crops grown for use in clothing production in the world. The industry, by itself, accounts for $2.6 billion in pesticide spending each year. Because cotton is not a food crop, it is not regulated in terms in terms of pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals that come in contact with it. According to the EPA, 7 out of the 15 pesticides that are regularly used on cotton carry labels classifying them as either potential or known carcinogens. The unregulated nature of cotton production explains why despite using only 2.4% of the world’s farmland, 25% of the world’s pesticides and 10% of its insecticides are used on it yearly. That calculates out to one pound of pesticide and one pound of chemical fertilizer for each pair of jeans or t-shirt produced. The conversion of this unregulated cotton into clothing requires additional chemicals that are added at various stages during the process. These chemicals include petroleum scours, softeners, brighteners, heavy metals, flame and soil retardants, ammonia and formaldehyde.

Considering those statistics, it’s not surprising that organic clothing for babies is rapidly gaining in popularity despite being more expensive than regular cotton apparel. In addition to being a much healthier choice, consumers are finding that clothes made of organic cotton last five to ten times longer than chemically treated cotton. The longevity of organic cotton clothes is attributed to the abuse that conventional cotton receives during processing where the breakdown of cotton fiber begins even before being sewn.    

It might be more expensive and more difficult to find at times but organic clothing brings so many healthy benefits it’s worth the money, time, and effort to put your baby into outfits that have not been touched chemicals and pesticides. Someday, when I was needed many planters for my plants, a friend of mine helped me by giving the way out from the problem I have. He knew that I don’t have time to go to stores to look for my needs, in this case is Planters. It is always recommended that only a carpenter or a qualified person should perform the installation of baby changing station unit. Changing stations are built with both plastics and metals, thus to insure proper installation and compliance to building codes, baby changing stations must be properly installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Baby changing stations can be either recessed or surface mounted. Both are safe to hold infants and children up to a certain weight. You can choose which model to have installed depending on where you will be mounting it inside your home or commercial restrooms. Mounting a vertical baby changing stations:

1. Remove the station from the shipping container and check for any freight damage. Identify the best location for installing the baby changing station. Hold the unit in place, open the bed, and make sure that there is adequate operating clearance.

2. Based upon the type of wall on which the unit will be mounted, determine the best method of mounting. Not all of the included hardware may be required for proper installation.

3. The vertical unit has four mounting holes provided in the back wall of the unit, which are positioned on a 16” stud center. If possible, locate the wood or metal wall studs for fastening the baby changing station in the desired location. If the walls do not have studs on center as outlined, make sure at least one side of the unit is installed into the stud. Use toggles (supplied) for holes on the other side.

4. Find the stud where you will be attaching the left side of the changing station to the wall. Measure 63” up from the floor (59” ADA), at the center of the stud, and mark the wall. Line up the top left mounting hole with this mark, then use a measuring tape and level to mark the remaining three mounting holes. This will locate the bottom of the station 31” from the floor (27” ADA).

5. If the wall has wood studs on 16” centers, drill 1/8” pilot holes at the marks and use the four ¼” x 3” panhead tapping screws with supplied washers. If the wall is masonry or tile over wood studs, use a 7/32” masonry drill until you hit the stud, then proceed to drill 1/8” pilot holes into the studs and use the four 1/4” x 3” screws with supplied washers.
